There are about 50 million people living in Ukaine!!!

I can probably help you w/your search for surviving relatives, if I had more than surnames to go on.

Where did they immigrate? Where did they settle?

What sort of documentation do you have about these people?

Is there any oral history?

In order to make the connection to Ukraine, Date & Place of Birth are critical keys.

Her parents immigrated in 1929.

Under IMMIGRATION on above link, there is a database search you can do online for Mother's parents. You want to look at Passenger Lists 1925-1935. If they do not appear in that database, you will have to actually view the films yourself. All how to information is there.

PS>Be flexible with name transliteration. Bare in mind that the only correct spelling of the name is in its original language, using the original alphabet.

Schian/Shyane/Schian/Schyan/Scian

You really want to do both searches. It is always best to double check all documentation.

Once you have info on Mother's parents, which will include place and date of birth, you can do an archival inquiry overseas. That inquiry will provide you with name of siblings etc. With that information in hand, you can then proceed to write a letter to village/town mayor and inquire re any surviving relatives.

When you obtain name of town/village, I will help you with archival address and address to mayor.

If you run into a problem, please remember that there are no dumb questions. Feel free to ask and I will try to help.
