Hello All

My maternal grandparents came from Kamyanka in Skalat district. Grandfather John Polisczuk b. 6 June 1883 and grandmother Malanka Romanczuk, b 13 January 1893. Grandfather arrived in Canada 1911, grandmother arrived in 1914. Any help locating relatives would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

John/Ivan/Iwan Polischuk & Malanka Romanczuk from Kamenki>now Raion/District Pidvolo

The village (Kamenki 49.33N-26.01E) still exists today!

JewishGen ShtetlSeeker - Town Search
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm

What you can do with this info? Write the Ternopilska Oblast Archives and get any documents available for both surnames. The avg cost per surname is about $50 American. There is no prepayment! They will notify you as to what kind of info is available and what the cost of search and copies will be. They will also provide you with their bank acct number. You simply deposit funds thru a large local bank and two weeks later you will have the copies. This will not only provide you w/documentation for your genealogical records, but also with some very valuable information for your search for surviving relatives. You will have the patronymics (given names of Great Grandparents) and names of all siblings, and maybe even the house address. Once you have all this info, write the village mayor. Provide him with the info you have (patronymics important here) and ask if there are any surviving relatives living in the village. If there are, ask him to pass the letter on. Kamenki is a small village. I know quite a few people that have had success doing this. Although the following link suggests using Ukrainian, English or German work as well. Do not forget to include 2 IRC's. Intl Response Coupon, which can be purchased at local post ofc at nominal cost. Given the economics of the country, the IRC's will help expedite any response. When addressing envelopes to Ukraine, make sure to print Ukraine in large letters on very bottom left or right of envelope, for use by your own postal authority. You don't want them to get confused as to where the letter is heading.

Oblast address taken from following link. ZIP CODE HAS CHANGED. New zip below. I have also included the latest fax number for them. No E-mail address available yet. Link is worth a read thru.

Kamenki or Kamenka?

Always good to double check and then triple check the next day. These village searches can be tricky.

Using Shtetlseeker's DISTANCE search on bottom and Skalat's longitude & latitude, doing a 20 mile search & inserting Letter K for first letter of surrounding villages.

JewishGen ShtetlSeeker - Town Search
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm

Kamyanka can be
KAMENKI (49.33N-26.01E) 8.2 miles N of Skalat>> now Pidvolochyskij Raion> Ternopilska Oblast> Ukraine

Kamnyanka can also be
KAMENKA (49.14N-26.17E) 19.3 miles SE of Skalat>> now Horodotskij Raion> Khmelnytska Oblast>Ukraine

Luckily both villages still exist, although in different oblasts. Unfortunately there is no way to check the net for what village was formerly part of the Skalat Raion. Do an archival search in both places. You will not have to pay for the search, if they cannot locate info for you. Have included new mail zip in address for you. There is also an e-mail address.

UKRAINA
29000, Kamianets-Podilskyi
vul. R. Liuksemburh, 15
Derzhavnyi Arkhiv Khmelnytskoi Oblasti
Director: Petro Slobodyaniuk

E-Mail kpmda@pku.kp.km.ua

If it is KAMENKA in Horodotskij Raion the address to mayor would be:

UKRAINA
Khmelnytska Oblast
Gorodotskij Raion
s. Kamenka
Holowa Sela

Relatives in KAMIANKA

Hello Hannia
Thank you very much for the information. The village from which my grandparents emigrated was KAMIENKA (old Polish) present day Kamyanka/Kamianka in Ternopil Oblast north of Skalat and east of Pidvolochysk. My grandfather was in the army from age 18 to 24 and my grandmother worked for a Jewish tailor named Schuster. Other relatives from the village were Alex Mulla, Hanoshka Podborochinski, Joseph Shegolski and wife Anastasia Weiss.

Thanks

Vasyl

Info on the Moczulski/Chrobaks family tree.

I'm searching for any relatives with the last name of Moczulski or Chrobak from the towns of Czarnoroncy and or Rodatycze Poland. I believe these towns are now in the Ukraine under a changed name.
the Moczulski's married into the Chrobaks family or Vise-versa and then moved to Canada. I would like to chat with anyone from these towns if at all possible. I can't find these towns on any map of Europe. contact jayholding@hotmail.com

Jay,

Your ancestral villages are nowhere near villages mentioned in previous posts!

Quick look indicates Rodatychi is in Horodotskij raion/district, formerly called Grodek Jageliionskij
POWIAT(county-administrative district) in what is the Lvivska (Lviv) oblast/region today.
Coordinates 49.48-23.32. My maternal family is from this district. This selo was
founded in 1370 and currently still exists w/population of 1,912 souls.

Your Czarnoroncy is actually Chornokyntsi today (coordinates 49.50-23.30) .
It was founded in 1470 and still exists, although it is barely hamlet size today
w/only 50 residents. It is appx three miles NNW of Radytychi. It is in the
Yavorivskij raion/district > Lvivska oblast.

Were Moczulski Polish or Ukrainian?

There are 390 individuals w/Chrobak surname in Ukraine.
Seven are listed in Lviv. Many villagers have moved to
the larger towns/cities for economic reasons.
THERE ARE TWO CHROBAK LISTED IN CHORNOKYNTSY !!!

When did your family members emigrate?
