Searching my family tree which is nearly impossible because of all the name changes when my relatives came to the USA.
Dziurkievich & Shustykievich are the original names from the Ukraine. Anyone out there? I'd love to hear from you! |

Difficult Surnames to Track
Doing a Soundex search for the surnames will help locate films thru Mormon Genealogical Library & National Archives in D.C. for SIMILAR-SOUNDING SURNAMES. Follow instructions on links. Note all details re any films with your surname code. Start your research with LDS/Mormon Genealogical Library. Link is fairly user friendly. You can order these films there and view them at a local convenient center. Bring a magnifying glass with you and be prepared for a long tedious search. Do you have given names for original immigrant-family? Any idea of time frame? Get as much info from relatives as you can, notwithstanding how they decided to spell their names.
The key to your whole search lies in locating the name of town/village of birth. SOUNDEX Code Generator and Immigration List Index http://208.249.158.172/nara/soundex2.htm Once you get the Soundex code, Click SOUNDEX! That will provide u w/list of records available for that Soundex Code. The Dziurkewich's might have immigrated from Bukowina/Carpathian area... |
