Does anyone one know what is the meaning of it and whether is particular in origin to Ukraine or Russia too?
In modern times and due to population shifts have been great but someone with historic-geanological background will be more informed than myself thanks [Edited by ricardo on 24th August 2001 at 15:46] |

The CHUK/ZHUK/UK/IUK suffix means "son of" and typically appears on names of Eastern Slavic origin, i.e. Ukrainian, Russian & Belarussian.
The key in ascertaining the origin of any surname lies in examining the root, but given the historical hodgepodge of Eastern Europe, even that gets tricky. |
