In a military document of my grandfather it says that he was enlisted in the Russian army at the Zvenigorod district of the Kiev gubernia.
Could it be that Kalebalozk was a town or village of the Zvenigorod district? Thanks for your replies. |

Kiev Gubernya Map from 1899.
Click on Kiev Guberniya Map at bottom of page. http://www.angelfire.com/or/yizkor/gubmaps.html Using Shtetlseeker found Zvenigorodka @ 49.05N & 30.58E. Go to very bottom of page & click DISTANCE. Then do 30 mile distance search for Zvenigorodka. Type in letter "K" for Kalebalozk. Closest transliteration I found was Kalniboloto. JewishGen ShtetlSeeker - Town Search http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm Be careful when doing an Archival search. Double check that village and district center/raion are still part of Kievska Oblast. Possible that district center has also changed. Double check everything thru Ukrainian Town Location Guide. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ukrwgw/ukrainetown.html#step1 Main Ukrainian Archives' Addresses http://lemko.org/genealogy/oblasts.html PS> Baloto(Rus)///Boloto(Ukr) means mud. |
