I am 63 years old and had cancer 3 years ago. Last June I was diagnosed with a new unrelated cancer. Before My health fails me I would like to go to the Ukraine in search of my family roots. I am Canadian, living in the U.S.,speak no Ukranian but understand a few words.
My maternal Grandfather, John Marko was born in the Ukraine in Malniv. He came to Canada single, before 1914 and settled in Poplarlfield, Manitoba. He married my Grandmother Katherine Boluk who came from Chernova or Cherenerva. I am told that these villages are about 10 km. from Mosteska and approx. 100 km. north west of Lviv and approx.100km.from the Polish border. My Grandmother was said to have one sister and two brothers. She was related to the Ledowchowski family from the same village.
My Paternal Grandfather, John Skomoroch was born June 11,1886. He came to Canada from Cherenerva around 1914 and married Katherine Kochan and settled in Poplarfield, Manitoba. Her relatives, the Shott family are from the same village.
Can some one connect me with a church or city hall in these villages what could help me? I would like to travel there this year if possible
