Family Stein
Hi,
I am trying to trace my family tree and I have traced my Grandparents back to their marriage in Puchawa in 1900/1901. I believe they left Kiev around 1905 with two children Judah (Yiddle) and Lottie. They landed in the East End of London where they had a further 6 children, Sam, Percy, Lewis (my Father), Fanny, Sarah and Barnet. Their names were Marks Stein and Annie Jane Stein. The 1911 census states they were Russian/Polish and my fathers war record say they were Russian but they were married in Ukraine. Can anyone help in determining their place of birth or put me in contact with someone that can. Please try and help. Marion Green (Nee Stein) |

Determining the place of birth is often done through immigration records and researching ship's manifests. I would look for the ships manifest first. Often they had the name of the village they came from. The only way to obtain records in Ukraine is to know the place of birth first. Not familiar with what process people went through to become British citizens but assume it is similiar to Canada. You may want to look for Naturalization papers. Check your own government websites and see if you can order a copy. (perhaps goverment archive website of some sort?). Naturalzation papers (or other such name) will hold a weatlh of information for you.
Looks like your family is/was Jewish by the name? Records for Jewish people not as easily obtained. If you search on the website using key works like Jewish Genealogy you will see othter posts in this forum about traicing Jewish genealolgy in Ukraine. There are various websites etc that maybe of help to you. Sandra |
