RUNGE family from Muzylowice, Ukraine
My husband's family is from Muzylowice. GEORG RUNGE and APALONIA WILDE moved to Canada (via Hamburg) in 1900 with their children: Tomas, Mathilda, Johann, Maria, Rosalia and Karl. Their journey took them to Odessa, Saskatchewan.
Can anyone help me find Georg and Apalonia's ancestors in Muzylowice and any history of them? Thanks for any help you can give - and records would be GREAT. |

Perhaps someone here who has more knowledge of village names in Ukraine can confirm the village. Do you know what district and oblast this village belongs to? How did you get this name? Have you found it on a map? Many villages with the same name and today it could be known as another name? You must be certain of the village. LDS (Latter Day Saints) have filmed church records of Ukraine (some records are missing) but their site does not cross reference village names when in the search function. I have found records under the villages polish name which is different than it's Ukrainian name. I could not find records with this name but does not mean they do not exist.
Unfortanetly because the family immigrated before WW1 there is most likely no Naturalization papers as Canadian gov't did not keep them. However, you can check their websites to be sure. Some people did not naturalize until after WWI and if so, you can obtain copies for $5. You can go to the Canada Collections website and search your name. Be flexible with the name as spelling changed or were misspelled or even transcribed incorrectly. R taken as a K etc. You would be amazed at the amount of transcribing errors. Sandra |

So I think I may have found LDS records now that I see alternative spellings. Go to www.familysearch.org click on "catelog" and then search under place names. I always put "Ukraine" first then village name. There are both Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic records to be found. When you go to FamilySearch.org you can also search for your nearest "family history center". YOu will be able to order the microfilm and have it come to your nearest center for viewing. The cost is about $6 per film. My cousin who lives on a farm also ordered film through his library if that is closer BUT they must have a microfilm viewing machine.

You will need to learn some key words in Ukrainian like son, daughter etc. If grandfather was born after 1907 then you will not find him here. I have never tried the archives directly because I wanted a family tree done which they will not do for you. They will only look up records and get you copies so you have to know the information before you request a copy of birth etc. Good Luck Sandra |

There are many with that surname listed in the St. Petersburg Archives available at Odessa Digital Library. and in the databases at Black Sea German Research
You will need to know the old name of the village. You might try JewishGen Gazetteer to see if you can find the old name. One of the problems you will run into is that the records don't generally go up to the decades that Georg and Apolonia were probably born during. But the folks at Black Sea Germans are very helpful, so drop them a line. You can also find them on Facebook: Black Sea Germans Research Community. Like I said, loads of Runge and Wilde families in the records. Just need to bridge that gap of decades. Good luck! Sandra |
