Lopuschansky/Lopuschanskyj family
I'm trying to find information about Dmytro Lopuschansky (originally spelled Lopuschanskyj) and his family (parents, grandparents, any siblings, aunts, uncles, etc.). Dmytro was born on 29 August 1913 in ôÉÛ¦×ÎÉÃÑ (Tyshovnitsa/Tyshivnytsya/Tyszownica) in southwestern Ukraine. He sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany, on the ship "General R.M. Blatchford" on 16 April 1951 and arrived in New York on 26 April. Soon after arriving in the U.S., he lived in Campbell, Ohio, and then Youngstown, Ohio. Later on, he lived in Athens, Laurelville, and Kingston, Ohio. He died on 3 March 2002 in Kingston and was buried in Green Summit Cemetery in Adelphi, Ohio.
People who knew Dmytro toward the end of his life said that he had a concentration camp prisoner number tattooed on his arm, but they didn't know which camp(s) he had been in and couldn't remember the number. They also didn't know many details about his earlier life in the U.S. or about his life in Europe, including whether or not he had spent time in a displaced persons (DP) camp after the war. Dmytro's father was Pantelejmon/Panteleimon Lopuschanskyj. His mother was Yustyna (or Yustyria) Chymmok (or Chymmiok) Lopuschanskyj. Their names are all I know about them. I would really appreciate any and all information anyone can share with me about Dmytro and his family. Also: 1) Can anyone tell me the name of the church in this photo of Dmytro's home village (ôÉÛ¦×ÎÉÃÑ)? Panoramio - Photo of Україна. Ð¢Ð¸ÑˆÑ–Ð²Ð½Ð¸Ñ†Ñ I don't know a lot of the Ukrainian language, but I understand Cyrillic letters; so you can type the name in Ukrainian if you want. 2) Does anyone have personal accounts (your own or a family member's or friend's) of what the immigrant voyage on the "General R.M. Blatchford" was like? Thanks for your time. You can write to me at: dmytroinfo@yahoo.com |

Tyshivnytsya - a small village, located in the Skole district of Lviv region.
There is a Greek Catholic metric book of birth, marriage and death for 1901-1926. It includes records villages Tyshivnytsya and the neighboring village - Pobuk and Mezhybrody. I studied it in detail. Unfortunately, there is no record of the birth of Dmitri Lopushansky. Generally in Tyshivnytsya no people with that surname Lopushansky. The question arises: - Maybe Dmitry was born in another village, and then lived in Tyshivnytsya? - Maybe Dmitry was born in Tyshivnytsya but baptized in the church of another village? - Maybe Dmitry Roman Catholic (I personally doubt)? Note, many Lopushynsky living in Pobuk. Igor |

Dear Beth!
Hanna said that the family Lapushansky lived in the village Tysovytsya (not Tyshivnytsya). Now Tysovytsya is in Stary Sambor district Lviv region. I studied school records Tysovytsya for 1932-1933. In this time Tysovytsya lived two families Lopushansky who had school-age children. They are: Lopushansky Mykola - children: Maria (1919), Anna (1921), Anastasia (1924) and Wasyl (1927). Lopushansky Ivan - children: Wasyll (1922) and Maria (1925). Ihor |
