First name help

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I am very thankful for the help I have found among the people at this site.
I am researching extended family. An uncle emigrated from Galicia about 1910. Ship passage has his first name as Makar. What would this be translated into in America? This has been an intense search with multiple spellings of the last name that have been solved but the first name remains a mystery as I always knew him as Uncle Andy. I'm thinking he just changed his first name. Any insight would be appreciated.

Makarios - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the russian Wiki the say, that the name Makar is not used since 1917. But surnames Makarov (rus), Makarenko (ukr) exist now.

Best regards!
