Ernie, starving and grasping at a straw
![]() Lvivske, ok that's pretty convincing. I'm still guessing Stubienko, but still looking for proof. Googled a lot and looked at a lot of maps but not found it yet. Yesterday I did find a set of soviet maps, that included Peremshyl, but it stopped before Stubienko, and the adjoining maps weren't present. So I still have not seen Stubenets' in cyrillic print anywhere except in this thread. Still looking Wolodymyr |

The village's name in Latin = Stibene, in English = Stibenets and in Polish = Stubienko.

Good find Whymickey, searching on that I also found STIBENEC in Church in Ruins - Index
Also found Ст╕бенець in "п²п░п■п║п╞п²п²п╞" - я│я┐я│п©я√п╩я▄п╫п╬-п╨я┐п╩я▄я┌я┐я─п╫п╣ я┌п╬п╡п╟я─п╦я│я┌п╡п╬ п╪я√я│я┌п╬ п⌡я▄п╡я√п╡ - п■п╬п╪я√п╡п╨п╟ shows as Ст╕бенко on their map of Peremshyl. So Ст╕бенець seems likely if we accept that the name Стубенець might be an alternative or that the village name was incorrectly transcribed on headstone. Anyway Lvivske I would suggest that you concentrate your efforts on Ст╕бенець and see if anything turns up as so far the name Стубенець hasn't been found. Regarding the maps I was looking at, the Russian map that actually contains Stubienko, that I can't find (for free) on the internet is M-34-82B Wolodymyr |
