If you are seeking information on your grandparents and if they were naturalized in Canada, try searching for them at
Search by Name (1915-1936) - Canadian Naturalization 1915-1951 - Library and Archives Canada.

US naturalization records have been very helpful for my research.

I have searched thier records and have been able to find my grandmother and the three eldest children, however no records can be found on my grandfather and his brother.

Search on Debeslavtsi in Google maps and you will see it,
I came up with plenty of interesting hits on Debeslawce in Google including some on geneology / ancestry boards. Try searching on both names.

I'm guessing that Kolomia is the same as Kolomyja (note you transposed the y and j) and possibly Debecace is Debeslawce too since I could not find Debacace.

Wow, I didn't put two and two together, thank you. The fact that my grandfather claimed his village as being in West Ukraine and my grandmother claimed it being in Poland threw me off. I know that they lived there during the Polish-Ukrainin war/conflict and maybe that would be the reason for the discrepancies in the name

Hello vampporcupine, and welcome to the forum!

I agree with bkrevel that both villages may be one and the same. I suspect that the letter may have been poorly translated from Ukrainian to English.

Based on the information you provided, it's likely that both your grandfather and grandmother came from the village of Debeslavtsi (Дебеславц╕). This village is located southeast of the town of Kolomyia. It is within the Kolomyis'kyi raion, Ivano-Franivs'k oblast.

Until you find documented evidence to the contrary, you may want to proceed with your research on the assumption that "Debecaci" and "Debeslawce" refer to the same location.

With regards to searching the Canadian Naturalization database, what surname(s) are you searching for? Have you tried all possible spelling combinations/permutations for those surnames?

Richard
