DUDAR family; alternative spellings; translating a city name
In a nutshell, here's what I know about Fedor Dudar's immigrant family, who moved to Wostok, Lamont County, Alberta (from Dreams and Destinies - Andrew & District):
![]() Here's their tombstone: ![]() --How else might this name have been translated into English? Thus far I've seen Dudar and Dudear. Are there any other spellings I should be searching for? --What modern cities do "Bilatoka" or "Gremalo" translate into? I'm not finding anything on Google. |

More: Dmytro (above) married Maria/Mary in or about 1910. I believe (from oral history) that her surname may have been YOUZWYSHYN. However, the 1911 census index isn't offering many leads for that surname.
--Is anyone familiar with the Youzwyshyn family in Central Alberta? --What alternative spellings should I check? I assume this is a Ruthenian name; her obituary says she was born in Austria. |

All the information it follows that the family Dudar comes from the village Bilatoka near Gremalo.
Gremalo - wrong record city Hrymayliv in the Ternopil region. Bilatoka - now village Bilynivka in the Husyatyn district Ternopil region. Once written Bielenowka, Bielanowka, Bilitowka ... It is south of Hrymayliv. Now Bilynivka small village, doomed to extinction. In 2003 here lived only 61 people. The administrative village subordinated Lezhanivka. Church was not. People are baptized in Lezhanivka or Zelena. Igor Voronchak (voronchak@ukr.net) |

Thanks for the information, Voronchak.
To be clear, you're saying the town is here (Google maps)? I wouldn't have been able to figure that out on my own. In fact I'm getting confused simply comparing a 1900 map to a current one. |
