looking for Spodaryk family
This is what I know about my father's family (Spodaryk). My father Iwan Spodaryk was born on 10th March 1923, on his birth certificate it had Poland although he maintained he was Ukrainian. His mother was called Kateryna Hnatousca born in Ukraine and his father Teodor Spodaryk. My father's grandfather on his father's side was Constanten Spodaryk and his grandfather on his mother's side was Fedechek Hnatousci Maria Sechcka was one of his grandmothers.
My father had a brother Nikolas and sisters ,Maria, Kateryna and Anastasia, there were others however i think they died during the starvation. My father went to war at the age of 15 and that was the last time that he would ever see any of his family, he was wounded in the war and spent a year in Germany before arriving in the United Kingdom at the end of the war. His father was executed during the war, his mother died in the early 80's I think, his sister Maria lived in Argentina, Kateryna stayed in the Ukraine as did his brother Nikolas who I think may have died recently, I don't know what became of Anastasia. My father was seconded in the British army and was based in edinburgh where he met my mother and had three children. I am the youngest of the three, two girls and a boy. My father kept in touch with his family via mail but he never returned to his birth place and sadly he died in 1999. I am trying to trace some family, I know there are lots out there, unfortunatly i don't speak Ukrainian which is a pity and I do have lots of his letters from his family, my mother passed away four years ago so my information is limited. If you think you have any information it would be good to hear from you |

Hi Kateryna,
You're doing a great thing. Where was your father born in Ukraine? Do you have envelopes with the address in Ukraine? I'm a teacher, a guide and I deal with genealogy research. I've helped many people to reconnect with their relatives and I'm really happy about it ![]() I can drive to the village, find the relatives, take the pictures/video and send them to you. I can provide references too. Regards, Andrew

Hi: I have Spodaryk's in my tree, but not the names you mentioned. I am guessing your relatives came from Starzawa in ukraine. I found my records in the LDS files. You may want to try that. If I spot your names will contact you again.

Surnames Spodaryk very common in the village Staryava Mostyska district Lviv region. Located it at the Ukrainian-Polish border.
In metric books Staryava no record of the birth of Ivan Spodaryk (1923). Other names (Fedechek, Hnatousci, Sechcka) not in Staryava. Maybe the family lived in the neighborhood (eg in the neighboring village Cherneva)? Igor |

Kateryna,
If you can understand the handwriting in the letters, you can retype the letters here- Virtual keyboard in Ukrainian (Українська) and then use http://translate,google.com to translate them for free.
