Baszczak âÁÝÞË Bujar Tomkow of Cyhany & Hlescava
Hello,
I would be very grateful for any assistance researching my ancestry and family: Great-grandfather Joseph BASZCZAK (âÁÝÞË) BORN May 21 or Aug 21 1856 to 1863 (probably the earlier years) Hlescava, Terebovlya, Ternopil. Son of Adalbert (Wojciech) Baszczak and Anna TOMKOW. Adalbert's potential mother cited in parish death records Martha Beszouycha born about 1791/1792 and died Jan 26 1882 Cyhany, Skala, Borshchiv DIED Mar 27 1931 Frances, Pacific, Washington, USA MARRIED Great-grandmother Anastasia BUJAR BORN Sep 4 1861 to 1870 (probably the earlier years) Hlescava Daughter of Michael Bujar and Maria DIED May 28 1933 Frances, USA CHILDREN born in Cyhany Joseph, Anastasia and family emigrated to Canada as Greek Catholics who spoke Ruthenian. I look forward to contact with any genealogists researching Baszczak, Tomkow or Bujar families of the former Galicia. I'm familiar with the region and have many maps but I would treasure any detailed village (census) maps that include Hleszczawa or Cygany. Cheers! Chris Bostwick (surname Anglicized from Baszczak to Bostwick by my grandfather in Canada) |

I checked the records in the Roman Catholic book of birth Cygany for 1890-1900. Found that Baschak Joseph and his wife Anastasia Buyar lived in Cyhany in the house number 8. They had children:
- Anna - born December 11, 1891, - Anton - born June 24, 1894, - Josepha - born June 8, 1896. All children are Roman Catholics. Maybe there were other children. Need detailed study metric books. I note that the names of Cygany Baschak and Buyar very common. If you need photocopies of records of birth, or map village please contact. Sincerely Igor Voronchak (voronchak@ukr.net) |

hello Chris,
Hello Chris,
Your relative's name caught my eye but you aren't related to me since my grandfather's name was Joseph Baszczuk, from Jasienow Polny, near Horodenka, Ukraine. That's too bad...my grandfather emigrated in 1915 to Canada then Michigan, then to Rhode Island in the States. Good luck with your research! Marcia Feinberg |

Hello Igor and Marcia,
Thank you for your replies. Igor, I sent you a message. Marcia, I've been building a database of all the Baszczaks and Baszczuks that I find so as to assist research and eventually link families. I'd be interested in learning more about your Baszczuks. I have an Andrew Baszczak born Jan 28 1892 in Jasienow and who died in Wayne, Michigan. I have Emilia Baszczak born in Rhode Island June 2 1894 and died in Woonsocket, Providence, Rhode Island in Jan 1972 and John F. Baszczak of Woonsocket. I'd love to hear from any Baszczak, Bujar or Tomkow family members living near Cyhany or Hlescava. Cheers, Chris |
