Stefania Shtohryn b 1871

Hello ! Have found this forum useful in the past in the slow task of tracing my family history. I have no other knowledge about my grandmother (paternal) other than the fact her name is STEFANIA SHTOHRYN and she was born in 1871. She married my grandfather WOLODEMYR HLIBOWYCKY ( 1868 - 1928) He was born in SLAVNA (Zboriv District Ternopil). If anybody can throw me a lifeline of any information or direction to take in finding out more about her and her family. I will be most grateful.

My father had friends named Proc (Pete) and his brother John Stohryn who immigrated to Toronto after the war (labour camp in Germany) from Dad's village in Galicia, Kasperivtsi (Kasperowce previously) near Zaliyshchyky) There was a deep bond among them.

Did your grandmother immigrate and if so where did she settle?
Ruth

that's fast

No, my grandparents stayed in Ukraine; grandfather was a Greek catholic priest in Bakivtsi ( between Lviv and Ternopol).. they had at least 5 children. His grave is still in that village.

However, I do recall that in some document from the DP camp my parents stayed, my father had indicated on a form that he wanted to go to Quebec (?? from memory ) because he had an auntie there. So... a connection there is possible. :-)

John Stohryn was not married and Proc was estranged from a wife and daughter he left in Kasperivtsi. My dad was born in 1911 and these men were close in age to him. I have Pete's papers somewhere as Dad was his executor when he died.

Dear Victor / Ihor!
Good information. I will try to help.
The basis for the study is the parish register.
In Lviv archives are stored metric book Slavna:
Greek Catholic - birth, marriage, death, 1835-1864, 1943
Roman Catholic - birth, marriage, death, 1816-1865.

In Ternopil archive metric books Slavna there. Metric books later period is probably in the Zboriv registry office. Next week will find out.
Please e-mail at: voronchak@ukr.net
