Obtaining birth certificate from Ukraine
On my thread "LDS films for Nebyliw and Perehinski" you can see I have found my grandfather's birth record. However my grandmother was from Nebyliw and the records seem to end there in 1865. Either the LDS haven't filmed furthur on or they were lost in a fire etc. Grandmother was born in 1890. I could probably find her family name and maybe her parents in the microfilms but I don't know their first names. How would one obtain a birth certificate fom Ukraine? I emailed an archive there a few years ago and they replied they don't do that kind of research. I also had contacted a local agency who were obtaining such information from Ukraine but they ran into some funding and other roadblocks. Also, would the Greek Catholic records have had other copies that would have been stored in other archives in case they were lost in the original churches they were from?

You can sometimes find the records that cover the whole oblast records. Example, there are no LDS metrical books that have celo Syn'kiv in Ternopil, but there is a metrical book for Ternopil as a whole that would most likely cover Syn'kiv. I'm not sure how accurate this is, if anyone can verify this for me??
Matthew Beilawa has a great article which is where I sort of gathered this idea from, something called the Bishops Copy, you should check it out. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source...VRQA& cad=rja If the link doesn't work just go to google and type "FEEFHS Journal Volume XI" and you should see an article called Catholic Vital Records of Galicia/Halychyna. Take care, Stephen |

Metric books Nebyliv in Ivano-Frankivsk archive available.
In Lviv archive is a Greek Catholic metric books for 1835-1865. Their copy is in the LDS. Metric books Nebyliv later period is probably in Rozhnyativ Registry Office. According to Ukrainian legislation, access to the registry office is limited, and the information is considered confidential. You need to contact the appropriate authorities in their country. They will request to the registry office. Ihor |
