You can order the film online from the Family Search website but it is shipped to your local family history center (you choose which one when you order) they are located all over the world and then you would go in and view the film. You cannot view the film from home. YOu cannot purchase the film, you rent and the fee is nominal (I pay $6 in Canada)
I also know that someone who has ordered the film through their local library but uncertain if they were able to do so because they live in a small town with no LDS church or family history center close by to them. You could check with your local library. It will only work if the library has a micro film viewing machine. The library in my town does not, so I must travel to nearest city (about 30 - 40 min drive) to view the film at a Family History Center. YOu can serach the FamilySearch Website to locate a history center near you.
Another tip - check with your local library to see if they have a geneaology group that meets there. You can join the meetings (it is usually free) and learn more about researching etc.
