Hi folks. New to this forum. I have been looking for years for information on my grandfather, last name Taciuk, who can from Potoczyska ( I know that there are many spellings where it is Russian, Polish or Ukraine). Hel left around 1910. We have info on the boat and what port he entered Canada from. What we do not have is any information on where he lived in the town, what he did there and if there are any family members still there.
I can provide more information. I would like to know what street and house number he lived at. We would also like to be able to find information on his parents, just like everyone else. .Looking forward to hearing from anyone on the subject. Thanks. Bryan |

Wow!
Hi Bryan, Potochyshche (Ukr.); Поточище (Cyrillic) neighbours my dad's village. What year was your grandfather born? My dad and your grandfather may have known one another when they were young.. Your family name is Tatsiuk (Ukr.); Taciuk (Pol.); Тацюк (Cyrillic). There are many Tatsiuk in Potochyshche. There are a few older Tatsiuk still living or recently passed on. Listed is Fedor, son of Petro, born 1917; Anatoli, son of Mykola, born 1928.... many widows. What was your great-grandfather’s given name? Ukraine does not use those house numbers anymore. Those were used during the Austria-Hungary Rule. In order to find your correct family in that village, you will need to visit a LDS near you, and order the film for Potochyshche. That would be the Greek Catholic Church. Some records are missing. I once visited a retired priest at his home in Potochyshche, and he was able to give me info for a man in Ontario. What happened is that during WWII the locals hid the books up in the steeple of the church. When volunteers were renovating the church, they found the books among the rubble. Title Metrical books, 1847-1932 Authors Greek Catholic Church. Potoczyska (Horodenka) (Main Author) Notes Microreproduction of original manuscripts at the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivs′k Region, Ukraine. Super, just super.
You have posted information that I never dreamed of and given new meaning to our search. I guess that all of the references, at least the ones that we have been given, are of Polish derivation. Will post some historical info a bit later. I have to hurry off to read my grandson a story. Thanks for taking the time to reply and providing new information. Regards, Bryan |

Here is the balance of the information
Theodore Frederik Taciuk, March 6, 1876 Potoczyske, Horodencenon province, Galacia, Polish Ukraine Wife: Anna Gorgechuk, born August 28, 1886, Galacia I have been able to see the village on Goggle Maps and I can see some land marks that my Dad talked about, family rescue from the river/stream. I have photos of Potochyshche, but where! If you are interested in seeing them, I will ask my husband to search for them. We have been to Ukraine many times since 1996, so he has arranged them on CD's.
Gorgechuk is probably Gorichok (Гор╕чок). There are still Gorichok's living there .... many widows. Theodore Frederik Taciuk - Teodor/Theodore/Fedir/Fedor, all one name. Did he have a brother Petro? Ordering, and viewing the films from LDS would give you all the answers for your family tree. Surrounding Area Potochyshche is located in the Horodenka raion (district), Ivano-Frankivs'k oblast (province). It lies on the right bank of the Dniester River, 10 km from the district center. Population - 2241. |

My sister and I would love to see the pictures. Where are you located? We are in Toronto, Ontario.
I will get my sister to request the microfilm so that we can better discuss things. We never heard to any relatives re: my grandad but that does not mean that there are not any. This is just so wonderful to finally be making some headway after 30 some years. Regards, Bryan |
