Recommendations for a trip to Krakow, Poland

Hi All,

I am taking a trip to Europe in the end of November of this year and one of our stops will be in Krakow between stops in Berlin and Brussels. We are planning to visit Auschwitz while in Krakow. I am posting this note to see if anyone has any recommendatons that would make our trip better. This would include best places to stay, eat and visit.

Thanks,
Lauri

I live in Canada. We (my husband and I) have been to Poland and Auschwitz several times. We purchase a rail pass for Poland before we leave (much cheaper than purchasing the tickets when there), and travel by train. Watch out for the taxi drivers ... most are crooks! The only way to go from Krakow to Auschwitz is on a bus tour. We hire a car that can be booked at the hotel. The car stays with you until you are ready to go back. We choose this method (approx. 300 zlotys, in 2009). When in Krakow we stay at the Campanile Hotel, reasonable rate, good location, and good food. Go on line and check this out on your own. We always book our reservation on line before we go. If you happen to purchase rail passes before you leave, make sure you make a reservation before leaving, for example, Krakow for Gdansk. Enjoy your trip!
