Ostashek and Andriuk
I am going to Ukraine in July and would like to visit the village(s) where my grandparents came from and see if there are any distant relatives still living there. I think I've located the village but who do I contact there to confirm that this is indeed the village and if there are any relatives there?
1. My grandfather’s name was Dmetro Ostashek. He was born on February 14, 1892 in the village of Banneliw. His parents names were Andrew Ostashek and Anna Kuriliak. Dmetro left Ukraine in 1910 for Canada. 2. I think my grandmother’s (Anna: born 1898 in Wostok, Alberta) parents were also from the same village, Banilliwa or Ruskyi Banyliv, Vashkivtsi. Their names were Jacob Andriuk (born 1853) and Magdalena Andriuk (born 1866 or 1868 and her maiden name was Ivaniak or Ewoniak). They left Ukraine in 1897 or 1898 for Canada. |

Did you check LDS film for your family in Banyliv? If you did, then it will be much easier to find family when you arrive there.
Dmytro Ostashek (äÍÉÔÒÏ ïÓÔÁÛÅË) more than likely came from the village Banyliv (âÁÎÉ̦×), Vyzhnytskiy (÷ÉÖÎÉÃØËÉÊ) raion (ÒÁÊÏÎ), Chernivtska (þÅÒΦ×ÅÃØËÁ) oblast (ÏÂÌÁÓÔØ). Banyliv has population of approximately 3900. There are still many Ostashek families living there. I will mention only a few of the older men … Andrei, son of Stefan, born in 1923. ïóôáûåë áîäòåê óôåæáîï÷éþ 0 1923-11-02 âáîéì¶÷ Vasyl, son of Georgy, born 1925 ïóôáûåë ÷áóéìéê çåïòçéå÷éþ 0 1925-03-18 âáîéì¶÷ Dmytro, son of Ivan (John), born 1930 ïóôáûåë äíéôòéê ¶÷áîï÷éþ 0 1930-03-21 âáîéì¶÷ A few with phone numbers ...
