Hi Ruth,
Maybe this was my Grandfather Joseph Chernicky. the birthdate is right, but I was pretty sure the spelling would have been Slavic like C^ernicky. How can I get more information on this? He was from Uzhgorod in the state of Ruthenia and the country of Austria-Hungary.
