Metrical Books

Hello everyone I hope you are all well.

I have been searching on the LDS website for the Metrical Books for Syn'kiv, Ternopil and for the life of me I cannot find them!? I'm either blind or unable to type the right words to get what I'm looking for. Can someone help me with this so I can order the microfilm from LDS to view them and do a little more research?

Thank you and have a great Sunday, Resurrection Sunday!

Stephen

Stephan you are not alone in trying to find films! I tried to look up to see if there was more film the village I am currently researching (meaning I alredy have microfilm from LDS) and the village comes up but they are telling me there is no microfilm for the village. Um. . but I already have a film from you! LOL

I understand there a many kinks to work out with the their new website. Someone at my local Family History Center told me to go to the old site (there is a link on the home page). You may have better luck searching there.

Good Luck.

I am certain Hannia will be able to help you too.

Metrical Books

One of the problems with the LDS setup is that you have to have the exact spelling of the village name as it existed at the time the church records were written - which in most cases would be the Polish spelling.

Syn'kiv sounds Ukrainian - from the JewishGen Shtetlseeker site 'Sienkow' sounds more Polish and there are films for this village.

You would have to confirm that this is the village - perhaps by checking on one of the map systems offered on the site.

Thanks for the suggestions, nothing so far. Sienkow, at least the ones that they are showing records for that I can find is actually in the Lviv area, whereas the Syn'kiv I'm looking for is on the Dneister River across from Bridok.

I'll keep trying, and here's hoping something comes up. Thanks for your help!

Stephen,

I think that records for Synkiv WERE NOT FILMED and that is why I sent you to Ihor Voronchak, who has access to archives.

This makes sense as to why I cannot find them! Yes Ihor did amazing research for me, I just thought that as I am interested now in expanding that to include all the families that are connected that hired help would be too expensive and I'd try my hand at the records through the LDS, but alas they are not scanned! I'm hoping to get to Syn'kiv in October for Anna's 81st birthday and perhaps then I can meet up with Ihor or someone then and do more in depth research.

I was able to find some other records that I can look at though so LDS here I come! Thanks for the help everyone!
