victims of war life insurance

I just found a letter related to my grandmother's death. It includes a line about victims of war life insurance. My German relatives denied she was ever in a labor or concentration camp. My grandmother was born in Russia, where it is now Poland. She married in Ukraine and had children there. Is there an office in Germany I can contact for documents on my grandmother's victims of war life insurance?

Hello Ludmilla,

I am pretty sure that there was a time limit for application attached to this German Holocaust Fund.

My Mama got a monthly payout. Once she passed away, payment ceased. There was no payout to heirs.

My Father however was not eligible, because he was technically a POW, and funding for this program was done by private German companies.

I still have the notarized paperwork and address, but I am not currently at home. As soon as I get back, hopefully by next week, I should be able to provide you the exact address.

Additionally, you will very likely have to show that you have power of attorney in Grandmother's estate.

Ludmilla,

A class action suit on behalf of WW2 War Victims, which resulted in a settlement February 2000, did mandate a limited two year program in which to resolve any unpaid war victim life insurance claims.

Info as per Constitutional Rights Foundation

I am in a fight with my mother's first cousin. She is upset that I am questioning whether my grandmother (my cousin's aunt) was in a labor camp. I am trying to confirm what labor camp she was in. I am not seeking any money. The husband of my mother's cousin was in Russian POW camp as a German soldier for many years. This relative does not want to hear that her aunt was a victim of Germany Nazism. This cousin is a proud German. I believe the truth should be out so history stops repeating itself.

When Mama applied for compensation, we had to provide camp and company names and appx dates. Luckily there were others in New York from the same camps, who had a better memory, and we were able to put the requested info together. The German govt provided no information and there was no Bad Arolsen then.

Ludmilla,
I admire your perseverance and search for the truth also. We can't change the past but we can tell the truth about it and hopefully impact the future. Your cousin and her husband need to accept that there was suffering and atrocities on all sides. I'm sure the Russian POW camps were awful for your cousin's husband, but so were the German ones where Ukrainians, like my uncle, conscripted by the Russians were starved to death.
