Katherine or Katrina Kostyniuk
Hello there everyone I trust that you are keeping well.
I'm interested in any information on a lady named Katherine or Katrina Kostyniuk. She migrated to Canada from Syn'kiv, Ternopil, Ukraine sometime in the early 1900's, not exactly sure. Her husband's name was Stephen. All I do know was that they came to Canada and at some point Stephen left her. I'm not sure if they had any children but I'm trying to find out as this Katherine or Katrina was my great grandfather's sisters that migrated to Canada. I've been able to account for one of the three (Kseniya or Lena) and have yet to find Maria Zaporozhan (husband Ivan or John) and I'm not sure when they came. Anyhow, just looking for potential areas that they may have settled so I can start trying to trace any children they may have had and work my way down the ladder. Thanks again for all of your help. Hey Ruth thanks for getting back to me.
I'm not sure that this is the same lady. Her husband's name was Stephen Kostyniuk, and on this manifest it says husband is a labourer named Kosha Kostyniuk. Also I do know that Katherine/Katrina was born in April 6 1884 in Syn'kiv. Her brother Stephen Kuriyets ( Cureatz now, Kurijec in Latin; my great grandfather who I've been researching for ages and with success thanks to a lot of help on here) came to Canada sometime between 1896-1902 where his trail begins in Neepawa, Manitoba and left with several families of Scotts, Freeds, and Ashdowns, and settled in Willow Creek Saskatchewan where he farmed, had 10 children and died. Her sister Kseniya (Lena or Olena) also came to Canada and settled into Saskatchewan near their brother (my great grandfather) and funny enough she married the brother of my great grandfather's wife. Another sister Maria married an Ivan (John) Zaporozan in Syn'kiv and they left for Canada but I'm not sure where they ended up. The whole family is from Syn'kiv, Ternopil, Ukraine. It's amazing how the more you dig the more details you find, but also you find how many more you're still missing ![]() Thanks again Ruth. Side question, how did you get so amazing at finding documents? Steve |
