Drohobych birth records from 1924
Hello,
I have been trying for the last 4 years to locate my Grandfathers birth records. Have located all other required docs but just waiting on this one last piece of information. Have contacted authorities in L'viv but have had no luck there. "The Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine, Lviv preserve the Roman Catholic metrical books of birth from Drohobych dated till 1923. Probably later metrical books are preserved in Drohobych Archives of Civilian Registry Office. To receive the information from this organisation You may turn to Ukrainian Embassy or to Foreign Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv" Name: Stefan Drobiniak Hufczak DOB: 26 July 1924 Place of birth: Drohobycz Fathers name: Michael Drobiniak Hufczak Mothers name: Josepha Klimow Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Welcome Mike.
The Archives in Drohobych is district level and requires a Privacy Release (Antheka), before any inquiry can be made. This is as per Int'l Privacy Law. Contact your nearest Ukrainian Embassy or Consulate and ask for a privacy release form. This form in turn will have to be notarized. They will require a death certificate or some documented verification that you are direct family. You can have them perform the request for birth certificate for you or you can do it yourself. Drohobych will not do any research for you. They just provide copy of documentation available. Many District Archives are holding on to their records, despite the 75 yr rule, because it is a source of revenue for them. It might run you appx $100USD and turn around of appx 3 mos on the outside.

The last record in the book must be 75 years old - however the first entries sometimes date back to the 19th c! I would understand if they held them for revenue - but they just refuse to produce them privately or officially. They could allow to copy records more than 75 years old and establish payment for this. Does LDS update their records - or they offer what they copied several years ago? Historical Archives get new books from the regional justice departments each autumn. |
