Hello Ruth.

A few yrs ago Yushchenko might have started the genealogy trend in Ukraine, when he had his own family tree done

Hello Ruth and Hannia
Genealogy is becoming increasingly popular with Ukrainians...
I would not say so - maybe among rich Ukrainians only?
Lviv Justice department charged officially $100/record for searching records in church registers - I see they have now removed the rates from their site - probably now charging even more - Therefore they 'sit' on old books refusing to transfer them to the Historical Archives.

Talking Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Press

I was made aware of the wonderful books published through the University of Alberta. I just received several, one being 'Ukrainian Genealogy ' by John D. Pihach. Many of us in Canada have little information to start our family search and this book is loaded with great info from how to start one's research to current information relating to the immigrant experience. I am a first generation Canadian yet I was lacking in historical data on Ukraine and little to go on about my family of origin. I lost my language skills and now I am attempting to 'get them back' much to the delight of my Scottish husband.

I enjoyed the article. It mentions one of my ancestral villages of Bordulaky! Many Mazepa's in the church records for sure!

Joy, the book you have is a good one. I have my own copy too. At first I got it from the library but checked it out so many times that I decided to buy it too. I find the section on "names" invaluable, goivng from Latin, to Ukrainian, polish etc has been invaluable especially if I am trying to connect "Vasyl" to his birth record of "Basilius" and many more names too.
