Necyk family in Mikolayiw, Brody, Galicia
I'm making a start on researching my mother's side of the family - the Necyks. The info I have is my great grandparents are from the village of Mikolayiw, in the county of Brody, in Halychyna (which I know is Galicia). In searching LDS church records, I can find many with Mikolajow and many with Brody, but none with the 2 names together. Can someone let me know which set are the right ones, or Is it possible these records have not been made available yet?

I have been to this village - have many pictures of it - I can send them to you
And I also have studied cadastral maps of this village and have the photos. Greek-Catholic Books 201/4a 3843- 3849 covering 1835-1866 in the Lviv Historical Archives |

That would be wonderful Irene!! I will send you a msg with my email id.
I might as well mention that my grandfather Joseph Necyk (from Mikolayiw) married a Barbara Shostak who is stated to be from a neighboring village Baryliw. She was the daughter of Konstantin Shostak. I think Shostak may be a rather common name... but our family history states that he was a village "pisar" (secretary?) at one time. |

Earlier I said the village of Mikolayiw was in Brody, but then I found some other family info that is saying the province is really Radekhiw. Did the province have different names at different times? Based on this information, I am not sure which LDS records would match. I found the following - can anyone suggest which might be the right one?
Austria, Galizien, Mikołajów (Mikołajów) - now Mykolaïv, Mykolaïv, L′viv, Ukraine Austria, Galizien, Mikołajów (Bóbrka) - now Mykolaïv, Pustomyty, L′viv, Ukraine Poland, Tarnopol, Mikołajów (Radziechów) - now Mykolaïv, Radekhiv, L′viv, Ukraine My guess is the last one - which if correct, unfortunately doesn't have very many years of records. |

Geopolitics change when moving from one historical period into another. It's real easy to get confused.
From late 18th century to 1918 Mikolajew > Brody powiat > Lemberg/Lwow/Lviv region > Galicia/Halyczyna Province > Austro-Hungarian Empire, During the Interwar Period (1919-1938) under Reconstituted Poland, same Mikolajew > Radziechow (Radykhiv today) powiat > Tarnapolskie wojiwodstwo/region. In this time frame Brody and Lopatyn too are in Tarnapol. Post WW2 Mikolajew > Radykhiv raion/district is returned to Lvivska oblast/region > SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain. Today selo Mykolayiv > Radykhiv > Lviv > Independent Ukraine. ____________________________________________ Thru these four historic periods Mykolajiv and Brody remained/remain appx 20 miles apart and the natives remained/remain ethnically Ukrainian. ![]() I made mention to you in one of the my earlier posts that Irene could fill in the LDS gaps for you.
