Kapeliuk, Nikiforowa, Macuk, Smaluk, Krocukow

Hello,
I am looking for information for the following persons from Russia:

Ewdokia Nikiforowa Kapeliuk was born about 1896 in Russia. I believe her parents are Michael & Tekiana Kapeliuk. I am not sure if Nikiforowa is a middle name, it is on her marriage license to her second husband Emilian as Ewdokia Nikiforowa Smalukowa. She married a Wasyl/Vasyl Smaluk in Russia. They possibly had two children. I have found Smaluk also as Smoluk and Smaljukowa. They immigrated to the US. She arrived in 1911 and lived in Philadelphia. I believe it says she resided in Krakinswka/Krakinowka Russia. I can't find when he immigrated. There was a story that she had two children in Russia, they did not come to the US with her, she was going to either send for them or go back for them, but when their father died, she never went back for them.
Wasyl died in 1918. Ewdokia then married Emilian Pavlov Macuk also born in Russia. I believe his parents are Pawel Macuk and Mary Krocukow. I also can not locate his immigration to the US. Emilian (he went by Michael in the US) died in the early 1920's. She then married John Merinuk/Mirinuk born in Russia (not sure if they were legally married). I am also not sure when he immigrated.

Any help would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Sheri

Hello Sheri ,

Some names/places you mentioned are recognizable , but some not.
Ewdokia Nikiforowa Kapeliuk - Nikiforow(n)a could be her so called middle name. it means that her father was Nikifor. Kapeliuk - for sure could be Kapeliuh

Smaluk, Smoliuk , Smaliukova - the most common one is Smoliuk.

Krakinswka/Krakinowka Russia - looks like Kharkivska . It is oblast ( former gubernia = state ) See maps of Ukraine.

Meriniuk/Mirinuk - look strange and a bit offensive . Correct form could be Mariniuk.

Remember that at that time a big part of Ukraine belonged to Russia. Almost all name you mentioned are Ukrainian ones. So, all those people perhaps were/came from ethnic Ukrainian territories in former Russia. I am sure they were Ukrainians indeed.

Good luck to you from Ukraine.

Nikiforowa = patronymic, DAUGHTER OF NIKOFOR

Emilian Pavlov Macuk also born in Russia
I think Emilian was from Kobryn > Grodno > what is Brest > Belarus today??? As per Ancestry ca, there is an Emilian Maciuk, who left wife Ewdokia in Kobryn????

Please scan & post the name of place as it appears on marriage certificate?

Were Ewdokia's husbands working in the coal mines?

All these surnames can be found in Grodno region, what is Belarus today????????

Hello,
Ewdokia was married to Vasyl/Wasyl in Russia, she married Emilian in Philadelphia, PA after Vasyl died. The marriage license only states that they were both born in Russia. I got the town name from Ewdokia's Immigration to the US, on her passenger list from EllisIsland.org and on Ancestry.com.
I do not believe they were minors.

Sheri, you are being very cautious re info you are providing.
________________________________________________

As per Ellis Island Records, Wolin/Vohlyn is key information for locating Ewdokhia's ancestral village.

Ewdokhia (å×ÄÏȦÑ/å×ÄÏÈÉÑ) was from the Vohlynskaya gubernia. From late 18th century to 1921 this region was part of the Russian Empire. During the Interwar Period (1921-1938) this region was a part of Reconstituted Poland's domain. During this period the large Vohlynian governate/region became Wolynskie wojiwodstwo and was divided into smaller regions. Post WW2 these regions became a part of SSR Ukraine, with the exception of one northern section (part of the Polieskie wojiwodstwo), which became a part of SSR Belarus, under Soviet domain until 1991 when both Ukraine and Belarus became independent.

Volyn Волинь

Now to find the village...
