Zynczenko
Looking for some help/advice.
I am trying to locate family that may be in Ukraine or anywhere else. Does anyone recognize my name or know anyone with the last name? I am also looking to hire a geneologist that specializes in researching Ukraine heritage. Its tough, my father was born in Germany after WWII and my dad and his parents came to the US from Germany. My grandparents were in a german labor camp during the war so info on where they came from in Ukraine I can't find. My father doesn't know much as well. Any idea's or help anyone could provide would be great. Thanks. please email me at mzynczenko@yahoo.com |

From Hannia's earlier advice to another person on this forum (Searched forum for: Bad Arolsen), you may find this helpful:
Contact the Bad Arolsen Archives. Since Grandparents were Ostarbeiters and had DP status, these archives will provide you w/details of their exact experience in Germany and other personal details as well. Inquiry by immediate family is available for free. All you need to provide is full name and any other spelling variants and exact birth date, or as exact as you have it. Do not provide more info than that !!! Your inquiry can be done by e-mail. I understand the archives have upgraded their svce and response can be received via e-mail as well. Response can take as little as three days or as much as three months. That part has not changed. Upon accessing site click HUMANITARIAN REQUESTS. Follow instructions. ITS-AROLSEN.ORG |*Homepage ___________________________________________________________ Important link for OSTARBEITER - DP Descendants Displaced Persons' (DP) Camps Table of Contents ____________________________________________________________ I would suggest inquiring re: one grandparent first, and see what comes. This information will help you trace your father's past. Re: immigration to US, please provide full names, dates of birth, year of immigration and I will search for them. Ruth |

Hello Zynchin. I see Ruth has already welcomed you.
I checked for the surname in Ukraine and found that currently there are 36,866 individuals residing in Ukraine that carry the surname Zynchenko/Зинченко. That certainly should make you feel less lonely. ![]() The key to your research will be the EXACT PLACE OF ORIGIN for both Grandparents. Chances are Grandparents were married in Germany and Grandfather may have originally been from Eastern Ukraine. Grandmother may have helped Grandfather w/a cover and helped keep him from repatriation. Since right now this is all conjecture on my part, it is best to wait for the German documents. At Bad Arolsen you can submit an inquiry for both Grandfather's and Grandmother's (including her maiden name) at the same time. In that paperwork you will also get some documentation for Father, as the child. You do not have to submit his name. Make sure to follow all instructions in post above. Once we find out where your Grandparents were born, we can take it from there. Meanwhile browse thru some of the other posts and get a feel for what goes on here. Have fun and again welcome.
