I was just curious, as this is our family book. You are correct, I remember them trying to put that book together, and it truly was a chore for them. I am looking to possibly do an updated one, and trying to find more history and current. With the internet I am hoping it will be much easier. It sounds like you have an interesting project going.

Hi Paulinah,
You also have an interesting project ahead of you. When I decided to do our family history my first few steps were to develop my long range strategy. The focus of my research was to find all the info I could on my paternal and maternal grandparents. I gathered all the info, photos I could from relatives and family friends. I also spent a lot of time at the local Mormon Church searching through records. I had a ton of info and data. The next question was how to publish all this material. Getting a book published like the Mudryk Memories would have been too expensive and I would not have been able to get the material printed in color. The approach I finally settled on was to have D ring binders printed with slip cases. They were still expensive at about $ 40 apiece. I then printed (double sided) my own pages on pre punched paper.. All in all, the book was about 600 pages and cost about $100 per copy. I can add or revise pages by using this concept. I tried to put interest into the book by telling stories about the family and their journeys to a new land. For instance: What was their village like? Why did they leave their village? How did they get from the village to the port where they sailed from? What was the boat trip like? Did any one travel with them? Where did they land? Where did they end up? What was there life like in the early days? Who were there children? You have a great source in your family book. There is probably more info than you realize on the internet that will add to you family narrative. My advice to you would be to get in touch with the older family members and record their stories and collect as much info before they are unable to share their memories with you. I learned this the hard way. Good luck Tempo |

Thank you for the ideas. Unfortunately most of the older ones are now gone. I am going to search the internet to get more information than was available back then. So much has happened since the last book, and everyone is wanting an update so it should be fun, and much easier with the internet and e-mail. A project I have to get my mind around on how best to organize. Certainly an exciting, and interesting project.
All the best with yours!! Great work and ideas. |
