Shkurativtsi/Kal'nyk/Beregsárrét
My Family research takes me to the village of Shkurativtsi in the Zakarpatska Oblast Region of todays Ukraine. I am searching for George Nimetz who emigrated abt.1915.
Other than a scrap of paper given to me by a relation showing his village name and the name of his parents, taken during his own reseach in the early seventies, I only have what knowledge I have gained through my own searches to go on. I have learned that George's Parents were John and Anna Szvida. George was born abt. 1895 and settled in Perth Amboy. (1930 census) From what I am told, he married Mary Bumbak at Saint John the Baptist Church on July 15th.1922 in Perth Amboy,New Jersey. Mary Bumbak was born abt.1905 in the Village of Kobler/Kybliary and emigrated abt.1921. It is said that she had lied about here age. Shkurativtsi was known as: Kal'nik [Rus], Kal'nyk [Ukr], Kalnik [Cz], Kálnik [Hun], Beregsárrét [Hun] Bereg County,Austria-Hungary. I seek the following with hopes it will help in locating Georges Passenger list and his port of entry into the United States. Alternate spellings for the surname "Nimetz" and if it is a common surname from the village area then and now. Thanks for any help! Dennis |

Based on his surname, Grandfather probably had some German influence in his bloodline. Nimetz = î¦ÍÅÃØ in Ukr means GERMAN. You are looking for Gyorgy Nimetz. Stay very flex w/surname. Have you searched thru Steve Morse Website. Use Gold Form. Submit surname under SOUNDS LIKE. Submit yr of arrival , if you have it. Under ethnicity click off Hungarian, Slovak and Ruthenian.
