I am looking for some help in finding out about my beloved Grandmother. After her arrival, I have learned a lot, but wish to know about my ancestry in BAHNUVATE, Turka region of Lviv Oblast. My grandmother Marya ZAWKO (Zauko) was born on July 15, 1892. Her father was YURKO and her mother was Anna M Culsiou ( this fact I gleaned from a marriage application in PA. My grandmother could neither read nor write so I have NO idea what they were trying to spell!) She came to America with her aunt Marya CUCEK (CUCYK) also from Bahnuvate. Her husband was Nikolai (Mikolai) CUCEK (CUCYK). These were the spellings I found on the ship manifest. I have been to Lviv and would like to return to see the grand mother/father land.

That is so true.

I made my first tentative steps in researching my family tree here on ukraine.com some 7 1/2 years ago. Thankfully I did have some documentation about my grandparents and Hannia + Zbyszek were helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I used a couple of researchers including Ihor who visited my family's home town of Sokal. Sadly it would appear that I have no living relations there today though it is possible that my great grandmother's family is still there.

Happily I have since located cousins that I never knew about in Poland, New Jersey, Detroit, Arkansas and British Columbia. The amount of leads that my research uncovered means that I am still tracking down cousins and most recently discovered that I have family in Scotland.

To borrow from the VISA card ad........when you tally up how much money you spend in using a researcher and memberships to genealogy sites............what you gain by finding your roots and discovering family members is by comparison, priceless!

BTW, I also discovered that bkrevel / Bob is related to my cousins in British Columbia!!
