Do you know when they immigrated to Canada? Were they married when they did so? Did they immigrate with other family members? Finding those records could assist in determining the place of birth which is my understand is crucial in finding records of their births. If you post that information here we could assist in finding those on the web.
If Mr Bozak's parents immigrated to Canada after the first world war for $5 you can send away for copy of his father's Naturalization Papers to Canada, they would contain a wealth of information. Prior to that those documents no longer exist in Canada. It took 3 or 4 months to receive a copy back but for $5 is worth it. Prior to WWII immigrants were required to fill out a National Registration Form and that too can get you the birth place. The cost though is approximately $50. You can find the information to request either of these forms at Welcome to the LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES CANADA website | Bienvenue au site Web BIBLIOTHÈQUE ET ARCHIVES CANADA I also found where my one set of great grandparents came from by searching local history book of the farming coummunity they settled in. Those can be found at the Calgary LIbray's main branch downtown. Many counties or small towns published their own history books with stories submitted by the local familes. The information is not always accurate but can be a place to start. I would first start with finding the ships passenger list - that is the usually the quickest way to determine's one village. If you cannot find it then use the other resources. Sandra - who lives just north of Calgary . Last edited by Jiggy; 11th February 2011 at 16:33. Reason: added additional information |

Mr Bozak has been in contact with me directly via email and so I am reposting what he wrote to me in his email. I will let him know to check your answers above as well. I don't he is to comfortable with computers and I would like to assist him. His email:
Sandra, Thank you for answering my request for information on my ancestors. First off, computers and I do not get along too well. I was born in 1930 and technology has sort of passed me by. My maternal grandfather came over from the Ukraine in 1898 . He brought my mother, his second wife, her daughter from a previous marriage and a one year old son. My grandmother died in the Ukraine (my mother's mother). Grandad's name was Nykola Zabiaka and his first wife (my grandmother's maiden name) was Maria Kinzerska. They left Hamburg on May 21,1898 on the 'SS Italia' And landed in Halifax on June 3,1898. The 1 year old boy,Iwan died on the ship. I have my mother's birth certificate. She was born on July 27, 1889 at the villiage of Wowkiwci, Borshchiwski district, Ternopolsky province. She died on May 19, 1965 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Nykola Zabiaka died in November of 1942 in Sifton, Manitoba at the age of 89. in Ukraine My father, Prokop Bozok was born on July 15, 1880. this is according to naturalization papers which I got from Ottawa. They say that he was born in Borszozow, Galicia. This is all the information that I have as of now. I have been unable to get a birth certificate for the last 2 years. From J Bozak So where is this Broszozow? Can you help with that? Sandra |
