Hello Marlee.
The surname TOKAR is equivalent/translates to TURNER in English. It is an occupational based surname, which means someone who worked w/a lathe, gadget for shaping wood. Tokar = Токар in Ukrainian (today 50+ Ukrainians w/that particular surname living in Chernivtsi proper) Tokarij = Токар╕й??? (today none listed in selo/village Kamyana > Storozhynskij raion/district - only Tokar) Tokary = Токар╕ (PLACE WHERE TOKAR's LIVE) is a common place name in Ukraine, especially in Eastern Ukraine.

I've ordered a reel from LDS but it'll take a month to get here so in the mean time I'm just seeing what else I can find online. Quote:

Status update!
For anyone that's interested since my last post here I found my Great Grandfather's birth record through the LDS Archives (Thanks Hannia), and have also found a second cousin, once removed and his family including four third cousins still living Ukraine today. |
