Hi Irene,
my little book of Ukrainian Christian names says it is for patron saint of same name Jan. 10th on Gregorian calendar. Book written by a Roma Z. Gauk and edited by a Dr. Yar Slavutych of U. of Alberta. Neither Domna nor Dominica are in John Pihach book however. Ruth |

I also have a family history written on Dan Kantymir wife Frozina (nee Scherban).
Says Dan's parents were Hawrylo and Mary Kantymir, and he was born in Kitsman, Bukovina, Ukraine on August 10 1889. Says he came to Canada with his parents in 1897 and settled in Gardenton Manitoba before moving to Gronlid, Saskatchewan. It also lists the names of their children. Anyhow if you are interested in the rest, if it is of some use to you please email me. I know that I've also come across the name Kantymir in passenger lists but will have to try and find it again. If you know anyone with access to ancestry.ca the search come up and I'm certain that you'll find they landed in Halifax, then onto Quebec and the records are there. Take care! Steve |
