Ukraines in german army
Hi
I am new to the forum and wonder if anyone could help me re my Dad. He lived in Kostilnyky near Buchach and was born in 1926. During the war he was "taken" by the Germans and ended up in their army. They gve themselves up to the allies in Italy and he was put in a prisoner of war camp in Rimini. From there he was bought to England via Scotland as a Displaced Person to work on the farms in East Anglia. He met and married my mum and never got to go back as unfortunately he died in 1989 before the fall of the wall. I have heard about the Galicia Dvision of the German army and wonders if he was in this but not sure. He would never talk about his war experiences as it upset him too much. His brother had been taken by the Russians earlier so effectively they were on opposite sides even though none of them officially "signed up"., I would love any information on any of these aspects especially the camp in Rimini. I have his card with his number on. |

Thank you
It was Hyhorizy (known as Gregory in English) Kramarczuk Another spelling we have is Hrygoriy bor n 13.02.26 He was taken in 1944 and marched to Russian front for the winter of 1944/45. They retreated to Yugoslavian mountains where they surrendered to Americans. They were taken to camp just off beach in Rimini run by mostly Scottish soldiers. They remained there till 1947 and he was then bought to Scotland and landed on 25.04.47. Then bought to East Anglia. Thank you for any help |

Thank you so much for this information.
My Dad's sister was called Pareska and her husband Dmytro whose surname was either Makaruk or Kostryba I am not sure which. Her daughter Daryna and her husband Ludvig still live in the village. Pareska had a son Myhailo who now lives in Ivano Frankivisk and with whom I correspond. Dad had two brothers who would be Kramarczuk's named Vasyl and Myhailo but they were taken by the Russians in the war and nobody know what happened to them. Dad's sister Maria died of typhus during the war together with Dad's parents Pylyp and Agafia. That is all the info I have on the family. |
