Surname Happy
I am now tracking my maternal family tree with the surname Happy. I am assuming that it has been Americanized since I have been unable to track using Ellis Island and others searches.
My grandfather, Nicholas Happy shows immigration from Galicia, Poland. Birthdate July 4, 1897 He was for a time living in Oklahoma where he married my grandmother, Helen Musial Happy. Her file shows birth in Oklahoma. They moved to Chester PA where they settled with other Ukrainians including my paternal family of Wasyl Pankiw. Hoping to find at least a link to Nicholas in Galicia....thanks to Hannia for the research on Wasyl Pankiw David |

Zarwanica? Galicia Austria
I found additional information on my maternal grandfather, Nicholis Happy. First his name is spelled differently. From his draft card in 1917-18 he lists Zarwanica Galicia Austria as homeland. Note sure if this is a Z or G ?
Hope this will help produce further clues.... Thanks, David |

Irene and Paul, Thanks for your help, I decided to try other names that were linked to Zarvanytsya and I found Hapy was common. Then I found Mykolaj Hapy arriving in Galveston Texas US from Bremen and his hometown was Zarvanytsya, same year of birth 1896+/- meeting Josef Hapy from the same town. This could explain why I have not been able to find Nicholas Happy and also how he would have been in Oklahoma early on, met my grandmother, he was a coal miner, and moved to Chester PA? Maybe ?
Would Hapy be similar to Hapiy? David |

Nicholas (Mykola) Happy / Hapy/ HAPIJ-HAPYJ = Микола Гапий in Ukrainian
_________________________________________________ Josef immigrated 2/21/1904. He was a 42 yr old Ruthenian/Ukrainian from ZARWANICA > Galicia. He was traveling w/three others from Zarwanica. They were all heading for Cato, Arkansas. Other surnames were 2 Baran and 1 Terhacz. Irene, are you sure it is the Zarvanytsia/ Зарваниця in Terebovlya > Ternopil region? That is the one with the famous cathedral? Google Translate __________________________________________________________________ Paul shows the one in Zolochiv. It was founded in 1890. Exists today w/ 265 residents. It belongs to the Strutyn village cluster w/which it shares the village adm, post ofc and zip code 80715.
