I think she is asking " What did you do before you retired?"?

The one thing I try to do when I write is to use short sentences, no idioms, no slang or any sentence structure that would make English to Ukrainian translation more difficult than it needs to be. Wish me luck.

If anything important - you can send me for translation - no problem - and you will send them Ukrainian text - I imagine what Ukrainian text they get after Googling your English letter!
