I hope you do not mind that I address you by your Ukrainian name.

Oleksa, Merry Christmas. Wishing you everything you wish yourself in the New Year !

Your facts are not exact, but I was still able to work with what you provided.

I found Semen Prilipko immigrating to USA August 4, 1923. He was 26 yrs old, a student, born appx 1897 in Onufriewko (poor transliteration of ïÎÏÐÒÅ×ËÁ). The passenger manifest tells us that he was going to his Brother's (Vasylij anglicized his name to William Pelepka/Prelepka) at 207 South Wall Street in Sioux City, Iowa >USA. Semen was 5 feet - 8 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He was actually coming from Stara Zagora> Bany Chanacki> Bulgaria (listed leaving his friend, Dr. Rostouzeff) and used exit port Rotterdam to sail to America. Ship was Nieu Amsterdam.

Were there any Trofim's in the family as well???

I don't have very much time at the moment, but should be able to complete this search a little later.

I know you have been looking for a long time, so I am giving you priority.

I found Naturalization Documents for Semen dated November 17,1930. He is listed as living in New York from 8/4/1923. He first petitioned for citizenship 10/15/1924.

He was living with his wife at 4 East 120 Street in New York City. He had anglicized his given name to SAM. He was working as a guard for an armored car company. Sam Prilipko, Semen Prilipko, was born in ALUFRIVKA > Russia, September 1, 1897. He married Emilia 5/24/1924 in Lykens Pennsylvania. She was born in Skvirtna> Austria. (Wies/village Skwirtne >Gorlice > Lemkivschyna> Austro-Hungarian Empire. She was very likely a Lemko??? )

Ruth,

Need your help with this reverse search. Two brothers, from Cherkassy > Eastern Ukraine (RUSSIA) emigrated to Americas. Older brother, Vasilij Prilipko (son of Ivan), dob 1895, came to Canada (possibly Montreal) in 1913. I cannot find him anywhere.

I found the younger brother in Ellis Island Records. He arrived in 1923. At that point he lists his brother William in Sioux City, Iowa. Apparently Semen never got there. Might have spent some time in coal mine area of PA and then returned to New York w/his Lemko bride from PA.

One brother was left behind in Onufrievka > Talne. The inquiry is thru descendants of the brother left behind. Family last heard from Wasilij in the 80's. Apparently Semen had joined Wasylij in Canada???

Are there any descendants? Where are they buried. etc.

Surname Prilipko/Prelipko/Prelepko (maybe even Pelepko???).

Thank you.

Wassilij arrived in Canada on the Kursk April 13, 1913. He came to Canada through Halifax entry port. I cannot find the Kursk passenger manifest.

Next records indicate that he stayed in Porcupine, Ontario until November 24, 1913. I know very little about Porcupine. Apparently there were some gold mines there. The Porcupine Gold Rush was a gold rush that took place in northern Ontario starting in 1909 and was developed fully by 1911. Most miners lived in terrible camp like conditions.

November 24, 1913 his name shows up at the border crossing in Port Huron, Michigan > USA. He was 18 yrs old, 5 ft 11 inches tall, brown hair and hazel (grey-green) eyes. He was born in Onofria >Russia, His father's name was Ivan Prilipke in Onufria > Kiew. He was joining his friend, Walter (Volodymir) Ymbro in Sioux City, Iowa.

There was a large population of Germans in Iowa. During World War 1, the Germans were shunned and there was a lot of work available in Iowa. Immigrants were welcomed. Demographics show about 5,000 Russians working in Iowa. I continue to look for details.

When Semen immigrated in 1923, Wassilij (William) was still in Sioux City, USA. (At this point Wassilij/William is 28/29 years old - maybe married??? Need to check public records here.)

Oleksa, you told me that Wassilij was in communication with family in Ukraine until 1980. Does anybody in the family have any of the old envelopes or letters?
