male sedliszcze
Wolodymyr,
Thank you the information. I have sent an email to the person mentioned in the link that you included. It's all confusing, where to look for the records, if the records exist, if the town exists. Do you know if male sedliszcze is still there? What years did your father live there? Again, I appreciate your help and look forward to more information. aprillilly |

Aprillilly,
Male Siedliszcze was in the area taken over by the Soviet Miltary in the 1050's, the families left there were then relocated to Mala Lyubasha or to Kostopol, my grandmother and uncle among them. I visited the location last year, you can see photographs here Ukraine photos 4 photos Road Junction, From the Bridge, Looking toward Male Sedlische, and Male Sedlische. I identifed it's location by comparing satellite photos with old polish maps. I put this on my webpage, as you can see here Maps My father lived there from birth in 1925 until he was taken to Germany in 1943. regards Wolodymyr |

Thank you so much for your information about male Siedliszcze. Until I saw your posts, This town was very abstract. Thank you also for sharing your great pictures and maps. That must have been an incredible visit to the area. This is a long shot, but I'm wondering if your dad remembers many people from the area. The names we are looking for are Pessie and Beryl Kremer and their children chava, barack, edith and motel. There were also 2 children from a previous marriage (chaika and Ester) We know that chaika was married. We know that the parents (Pesse and Beryl) and some of their children were murdered in the holocaust. We are wondering if perhaps some of the children and grandchildren could have survived. thanks again for all of your help and information. aprillilly |

Aprillilly, it was very abstract to me too, but luckily I have family in Kostopol, so was able to visit with their help.
It was an incredible experience and I am the process of writing it into a small book based on my father's history, his recollections and childhood there. I read out the names you gave, he didn't remember the family name Kremer, but said he remembered a lady called Chaika, she would have been about 50yrs old and had a shop of some kind, he said that it was robbed one time when thieves cut a hole in the side. Whether that is 'your' Chaika I don't know. Wolodymyr |

male siedliscze
Again, thank you for writing back to me.
This is very exciting to think that maybe your father knew Chiaka. I don't know if is our relative and I am not sure if that is a common name. Does he know if she was married? Do you know approx what year he might have known her? Did she have any children? Thank you once again. aprillilly |

My father was born in Kostopol (Polish ancestry). His father was a glass blower who at one time had his own factory which burned down (un-confirmed family story). He was taken to Germany to work in Stettin (now Szczecin) and then to Norway in the Arctic circle. Eventually he arrived in England in 1948 as a displaced person.
Some similar threads to our family stories although I daresay there are many others. Do you know if the area around Kostopol was known for it's glassblowing? Do you have any idea how I can find which area of Kostopol to start looking in? The surnames I am looking for are Lizon and Nieweglowski. |

Volyn glassblowing businesses
There is glass factory in Kostopil: http://kostopilglass.com.ua
- wich was founded "in the middle of 1913 by Polish landlord for jars and kerosene lamp glasses production". Other sources give foundation year 1911 - noticing that 100 workers were emoloyed. Polish book of 1863 "Wolyn and its inhabitants" by F.Nowicki - mentions 25 "simple pharmacy and window" glass factories in Volyn area - but among owners' names there are no Lizon or Nieweglowski. Autor notices that there is number of smaller ones - wich he doesn't mention. 1922 "Business address book" - shows 4 glass factories (in Polish - "huta szkła") in Volyn area - in Siedliszcze, Zofijowka, Mydsk, Klewan, - but obviously they're mentioned as biggest ones (162, 58, 67, 195 workers accordingly). 1929 "Polish business directory" mentions one glass factory in Kostopil: "Zgoda" workers union.
