Grabowiec Skolski > Skole > today Lviv region of Ukraine

Was it your Father that emigrated? What was the time frame? Where did he settle upon immigration?

Best to wait and see what Bad Arolsen has on record. If it is the Grabowiec in Poland, my guess is that it is either one of the Grabowiec in Lublin or the one in Jaroslaw > Podkarpackie region SE Poland.

Ruth, re Ukraine see my message of 10 Jan - I have dismissed Hrabovets in Stryi and Ternopil districts, instead located a family in Bohorodchany district.
However, since both the village name and family name are very common we shall wait and see!

As exotic as Hrabovetz / Grabowiec looks, it is a very humble name. It means ELM WOOD, and there are loads of those same name places in different languages all over the world.

Be patient. Bad Arolsen should be of help.

Hello Hannia- having kutia for supper today??
I wonder why you chose elms and not hornbeams for Hrabovets?
They look quite similar, belonging though to different families

Irene,

No kutia for me. I get applesauce tonight. Will explain another time.

I chose the Elm of the two, to drive home a point.

I don't know of too many Hornbeam-villes in States.
