I would not recommend going on train - it is a very long journey with a poor comfort

Would that comference make that much of a difference to travel and hotel bookings?

It is a major scientific conference without even taking into consideration that Chernivtsi only has a population of appx 250,000. Their annual conferences average appx 5-6,000 attendees, 500 exhibitors, 50 educational seminars and over 2,000 presentations.

Optical Engineering (optics and photonics) is the hottest science there is right now. This is all about application of light and
computers, things like solar energy and laser radar for example.

Hannia, Lviv holds about 100 festivals annually, together with various international conferences and Forums - probably they fill someone's coffers but not general coffers of the community, this is for sure -often only annoying locals and creating additional problems for them (with transport, etc)
