Pielnia - Surnames Patrylak and Pluskwik

This is the region my maternal grandparents are from...my grandmother Magdalena Pluskwik left a sister Anna behind as she and her other sister Mary came to New York in the early 1900's...am trying to find out more about them...I do know the father's name was Michael and that he had already passed away when they left for the US...Anthony Patrylak was my grandfather and also migrated at an early age to US..I have no other info on his background other than he was from the same area...anyone with information to share would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome tara2.

Your ancestral families were Lemko, a micro-ethnic Ruthenian group.
LEMKOs | Lemkivshchyna | Lemkovyna | Lemko | Boyko | Rusyn | Rusnak | Ruthenians | Carpatho-Ruthenians, etc.....

Antoni Patrylak, 24 yrs old, dob appx 1889, arrived at Ellis Island in 1913. He was from Pielna. As per following list, Grandfather's family must have married into Pielna community from one of the local villages after 18th century???

Grandmother's surname was Pljuskwa/Plushkwa. The family is listed as residing in Pielna at least back in 18th century > today Podkarpackie woiwodstwo, SE POLAND. The wies/village Pielna > Sanok district > Galicia Province > Austro-Hungarian Empire dates back to least 1295, when it was part of the Kingdom of Poland. That is two hundred yrs before Columbus discovered America.

In order to fill in the time gap you might consider making an inquiry at the Sanok Archives. There should be marriage/malzenstwa records available 1855-1903. They might be able to tell you where the more recent records are located as well.

town: Pielnia
province: krośnieńskie
province (since 1999): podkarpackie
denomination: greckokatolickie
type of record: małżeństwa
dates: 1799, 1802, 1805-1806, 1809-1811, 1813-1825, 1827-1837, 1840-1853, 1855-1903
commune: Zarszyn
parish/community: Pielnia

archive: Archiwum Państwowe w Rzeszowie Oddział w Sanoku

You can tell them where to search:
fond: 496/0 Akta Stanu Cywilnego Parafii Greckokatolickiej w Pielni

PS> If you decide not to tackle the LDS Films, you can make an inquiry for those records thru following. Not sure of costs today.
