Lischava

I have an envelope but it is in Ukrainian. I can scan it and post it. My letter says "The town of Lischava, 01 / 16 / 1934". It also mentions "Gershko Behr from our village , who used to live near Korshiv". I don't know if that helps. I will check out the link you suggested. I appreciate your help. All family that would know any history is dead and I would really like to find out about my ancestors. thanks

Using Shtetlseeker, you can actually do a 30 mile radius search around Lischava for village named Korshiv.

Submit your LISCHAVA in UKRAINE. Once the place names come up, go to the end of each line and click dot. That will give you a 10 mile radius of closest villages. If you do not see anything resembling KORShIV, scroll to bottom of page and click MORE SEARCH. SET UP A 30 MILE RADIUS SEARCH and submit just the letter K. When you find something that looks like Lischava and Korshiv in a close range, you will have found the villages you are looking for. In order to view map click M for MAPQUEST.

Please attach a copy of envelope address and provide surnames you are researching.

Hello,

Actually, I've found 3 villages named Korshiv in Volhyn, Rivne and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts:
Коршів — Вікіпедія
(use a translator)
The one near Lutsk, Volhyn Oblast (50 39′ 44″ N, 25 7′ 40″ E) is the closest to the village of Lischava. The correct Polish spelling is Leszczawa. So, Leszczawa is on the territory of modern Poland, close to Przemysl:
Mapa Leszczawy Dolnej, mapa Leszczawa Dolna, plan Leszczawy Dolnej, map Leszczawa-Dolna
Also, as you see on the map, there's Leszczawa Gorna (Upper) and Leszczawa Dolna (Lower).
The villages were the place of a battle which took part between the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the Troops of Soviet NKVD in 1944. Also, the Ukrainian population of Leszczawa was resettled during the Vistula Operation.

Regards,
Andriy

Hopefully, I attached two scans of envelopes from my grandfather. The last name is Solar but I see one envelope says Solarz. I have heard him referred to as Harry, Jorge, George and Frank. Let me know if the scans need to be redone. thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I am excited. I am not home but can't wait to get home and look if up. I just posted some copies of two envelopes that were sent to my grandfather. His last name was Solar (Solarz). How can I search for family members? thanks
