Thanks a lot Hannia. I did email your contact Alex but so far no answer. There is another person (Georgy) who is looking into my grandfather Czyzski; he is the owner of the site Òðîèöêèé õðàì â ñåëå Ñåëåçåíîâêå - Ìîíàñòûðè è Õðàìû - Ñòàòüè - AngelA.org.ua
There has been so many good things coming out since I have joined your forum that I look with optimism at a positive answer regarding my grandfather. There are too many of individuals with that name who have been involved with the orthodox church that one of them has to be my grandfather's father. Larissa might even come up with some good news or fresh leads, who knows. |

According to Village Mayor, Larissa is due back tomorrow. One of her kids is ill. Will try again Tues AM. I was hoping to have an aye or nay today.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___ I hope that Yurij (Georgy) will be able to help. He looks to have connections to the Orthodox Church. It's a handsome and informative site.

Paul,
For your records - Notice Rubanka, slightly NW. Florianivka, Ukraine - City or Community - Populated place I spoke to Larissa Zazuliak in Florianivka Village Administration (Rubanka belongs to this cluster). She was able to ascertain that YES there were several Chyzhskij families in this Rubanka. These were priest families, father and son. They were REPRESSED between 1937-1939. No one in village could remember their given names. Their families have disappeared and there has been no contact w/them since. No Chyzhskij residing in village today. Laryssa suggests that you contact the Vynnytska Oblast Archives. They have a division devoted to these matters. She was told that there were quite a few people repressed from this hamlet and the Vynnytska oblast investigators have created a careful list for Rubanka > Kozyatyn. You will have to provide a full name and ideally an exact birth yr. If you do not have this, try providing an appx. I would direct my inquiry to Deputy Director : Oleksandr Petrenko. Archives has e-mail address. State Archives of Vinnytsia Region Paul, if this info pans out and I am hopeful it does, I would send Larissa a note and a little gift for her effort. Address follows: æÌÏÒ¦ÁΦ×ÓØËÁ Ó¦ÌØÓØËÁ ÒÁÄÁ úáúõìñë, ìáòéóá ïìåëóáîäò¶÷îá ×ÕÌ.êÏÓÉЦ×ÓØËÁ,1 Ó.æÌÏÒ¦ÁΦ×ËÁ ëÏÚÑÔÉÎÓØËÉÊ Ò-Î ÷¦ÎÎÉÃØËÁ ÏÂÌ. 22153 õëòá·îá - UKRAINE

Hannia, I was away in the bush for a few days. Thanks immensely for your notes on the conversation with Larissa. I will write to her as well as to the archives. Could you give me Larissa's address in English; if I write what you have given me, then Australia Post will have a heart attack!!!
Regarding my grandfather, two positive points emerge from Larissa's comments, although I still do not know if they are about my grandfather's family: 1) that there were Chyzhskij families in Rubanka; 2) that they had strong links with the Orthodox Church (we know that my grandfather's father had some high rank in the church). All this point to the right family, I am still optimistic. Hopefully Alex will be able to assist in this querry as well. When you say 'they were repressed', do you mean killed/murdered or deported somewhere else? Just for the record, my grandfather was Jakob Czyzski/Chyzhskij, born probably around 1895, an Ukrainian, his father was a priest/deacon/something in the orthodox church, and my grandfather had 'a lot' of brothers and sisters. |

Please note that in Ukrainian address, country is listed in both Ukrainian and English. All they need to know is the COUNTRY. The Ukrainian portion will be sorted out in Ukraine.
