Searching for Kryvka records of Hytyk/Kwitnjowska

My Grandfather migrated to Australia in 1950. I am looking for any records of his family in the Ukraine and any relatives of his.

My Grandfather Michal Hytyk was born in Kryvka which at the time of his birth 10/07/1922 was Polish. His Father Johann Hytyk and mother Pawlina Kwitnjowska were farmers in Kryvka and had relatives there also. They were taken away by Russian army in the 1930's into Russia and it was never really known where they ended up. I would love to find out any info about his parents and family in Kryvka. I really dont know who to contact regarding this as I do not speak Polish or Ukrainian and have hit a dead end trying to find records via internet records.

Welcome Davey.

Your ancestral selo/village Kryvka (ëÒÉ×ËÁ) is a Bojko village. Bojko were/are a micro-ethnic Ruthenian/Ukrainian group. They were/are an artistic people w/their own culture & dialect . See architectural style in the pix below. *** The selo was founded in a Carpathian mountain valley, along a stream called Kryvko, in 1558. Today Kryvka > Turkivskij raion/district > Lvivska oblast/region > Ukraine, latest zip 82565, borders the Volovets raion/district of the Zakarpatska oblast/region.

***Greek Catholic Church of St. Nicholas (Mykolaya) was built in 1761. This was a jewel of Bojko architecture. In 1920 the village built a new church and decided to dismantle this one. The famous Bojko Art Specialist, Myhajlo Drahana, declared it a treasure and asked Bishop Andrij Sheptytskij to intercede. The structure was carefully dismantled and today can be seen in tact in the Shevchenko Park of Lviv.

history of Kryvka population:
1880 - 571 mostly GC, very few RC
1921 - 574
1970 - 634 (197 homes)
1989 - (212 husbands and 273 wives)
2001 - 459 (Three of which are Hytyk listed below. All three look to be long in the tooth. I would imagine that there have to be descendants. I also found one listing for Hytyk in Lviv proper. Irene's rates are very fair and her crew does an exc job of knocking on every village door. She will find your extended family for you. )
