FHL Library

Ok....so I am seaching for FHL films for villages of Patskan'ovo,Kybliary,Haidosh and Lintsi.
Both formaly old Austria-Hungarian Counties of Ung and Bereg.

I am told these records are not indexed by villages which I found to be correct.

Would they be included under Mukacheve?

Does anyone here have experience viewing these films that can enlighten me?

I am told they are written in Russian and Ukrainian but am also told they are In Latin and Cyrillic text.

Everyone seems to have different opinions and I am confused.

Any help here?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

Not much has changed since your last visit.

Greek Catholic Records used Latin since 18th century, when village churches were mandated to create and maintain metrykal registers. Orthodox records used/use Old Church Slovanic.

You are correct that metrykal registers for Zakarpatska Ukraine have not been indexed as of yet.

(For Bereg megve it's mostly the Reformed (German) Church records that have been indexed.)

That seems to be the latest....I also hear that more complete records are kept on the local level.
It seems that viewing films from FHL is hit or miss as they are mixed badly.

Perhaps trying the village administration addresses you had provided me in the past would be a better approach at this time?

Dennis,

Contacting village mayors of smaller villages works well if you are looking for living family. They have no access to old metrykal materials.

Records over 100 yrs old are in Oblast Archives and records 75-100 yrs old are in District Archives. Church records are kept for 75 yrs.
