Robl-Zirnsak ancestry.com tree

Hello Again,

Anyone with an ancestry.com account can see the complete tree and all documents I've put up so far at:

- Ancestry.com

This link will go directly to Katalin Zirnsak, whose baptismal certificate link I just posted.

Thanks much,

Robert Robl

The Uzhorod and Berehove Archives were/are under the control of uncooperative directors and that was initially a huge impediment for anyone researching this region. Today, although many records have been filmed by the LDS, no one has taken the time to index them and this area continues to be problematic for Carpathian descendants, researching their lineage.

It is hard to imagine this young couple Kati and Franz, crossing the Atlantic w/their four babies, Barbara (1 yr old), Josef (3 yrs old), Maria (5 yrs old) and Wenzel (7 yrs old).

As per ship's manifest the entire family is listed as being born in Szidorfalva. They were heading for Wilhelm Robel (Franz's brother) at 126 Sawyer Avenue in Oshkosh.

As per Gazetteer that Ruth posted, for Szidorfalva/Hrabovo, the filial Roman Catholic Church was in Munkasci and the filial Greek Catholic Church was in Pusznyakfalva/Puzhyakivtsi.

???
As per his passport, I suspect that Franz's parents were technically Austrian, but would have considered themselves Bohemian-German (Catholic). Notice the passport cover shows a place called Ubermoldan (on Moldan River in Czech Republic today), line below that reads Prachattitz and then Bohemen. The Robl family had very likely lived in Bohemia from appx the 13th century. The 13th century was the period of large-scale German immigration to Bohemia. The Germans populated towns and mining districts on the Bohemian periphery and, in some cases, formed German colonies in the interior of the Czech lands. Family may have migrated to Munkasci area some time (middle to late 19th c.) before Franz was born???

History of Prachatice

???
Before settling in Prachatitz, the family may have originated in Passau town/region > Bavaria, on the Austrian border. Please note that there was a commercial connection between Passau and Prachatitz, an exclusive salt purchasing agreement between the two places???

Down the road you might consider following up w/the German Bohemian Heritage Society ???

Most Winnebago County - Oshkosh residents of German descent have this exact background, Germany > Bohemia > (Hungary) > America.

Kati's Baptismal Certificate

Hi Again,

Does Katalin's baptismal certificate name the church she was baptized in? Does it show the names of her parents or her god parents? I'm assuming the document is written in Hungarian?

The document can be seen here: Flickr: akridgerunner's Photostream

Thanks,

Robert

The handwritten parts of the metryka are extremely difficult to read.

All I could make out so far, is that ???Godfather was Ferdinand Zirnyak/Zirnsak and ???Godmother's name was Maria Kershbaum.

I have yet to find Mukachevo RC German Church. During Soviet Period the RC Church had been pretty much dismantled. Try contacting following for name of church and its status today and ask where RC records might be:

THE OFFICE OF THE BISHOP
Diocesan Bishop of Mukachevo, Antal Majnek
89600 Ukraine, Mukachevo, vul. Mira, 15. POB: 76.
Tel/fax: (38-031)-31-54670 / 54671
