My great great grandpa Gregory (he went by Harry) Podlepchak (also spelled Pidlipchak, Podlipczak, Pidlypchak,Podlepscak, and Pidlipchak) (Dec 5 1872 - 1933) and his wife Julieanna Pupczyk (also spelled Pupchyk, and Pypchick) (About 1872 to 1916) came over to the United States from the village known as Smerekowiec in 1891. This village is in the Galician region of what is now Poland.
Gregory's parents were allegedly named Adam and Barbara (her maiden name was Russinik). Gregory’s siblings, who also came to the United States, were named Trofie, Tekla, Ilko (perhaps Elko), Anna, and Dennis. I am hoping to get in touch with any descendents from this family in hopes of finding more information out about this family. (Hopefully, they will have some pictures, too.) I would also like any information that anyone thinks might be useful in discovering more information out about this family. (I have exhausted Ancestry. Right now I just need to find the names of Adam and Barbara's parents so that I can make sense of church records that end in the early 1800s.) Thank you for taking the time to read my post. |

Your families were Lemko.
As long as this read is, take the time and read it. Malania Loziniak's retelling of where the families were dispersed might be helpful to you. ________________________________________ Trofie = probably Trofim Tekla = might have become anglicized to Tessie Ilko = Ilko, actually nick for formal Elias Anna Dennis

My great grandmother was named Tekla Pidlipchak. She emigrated to the United States in 1901 (the story is she arrived om 9/5/1901, the day before US President McKinnley was assassinated). I have not found any information in Ellis Island's database about Tekla.
I have US Census data from 1910 that places her birth year in 1888 in Austria, although I know the family was originally from the Ukraine. Tekla married Samuel H. Korin in 1904 (I was told she was 16 at the time, so I assume that was the year) and lived in New York City. They moved to Bethlehem, PA sometime between 1910 and 1921. Sometime before 1937, she started using "Tillie" as her first name. Tekla and Samuel had seven children, including my grandfather, Paul S. Korin. She died December 1966, and is buried in the cemetery by Holy Infancy Church in Bethlehem, PA. I have no information Tekla's parents or siblings, so I can't say if this is the same person. |

The eldest child was Eva. She was born in either 1905 (which is what my Dad told me), or 1907 (which is what I get from reading the US Census and a Delaware marriage license). I have no idea where she was baptized, although she was born in New York City. In the 1910 census on FamilySearch.org, her last name is spelled "Koring"

If the family was Greek Catholic this would have been their parish. Church records contained all kinds of personal info, including origin of parents.
History of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church ???Eva might have been baptized Evdokhia. Eva/Jevka is nick. Contact thru following site. You will have to stay on them for any old records. http://www.stgeorgeukrainianchurch.org/2101.html
